Impact of Tensions between Russia & Ukraine

Dear Colleagues

Just to confirm that the National Procurement Hub, working with colleagues at Blue Light Commercial, is currently undertaking analysis of the impact of the rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine on supply of our critical goods and services.

Currently, in terms of impacts on the products we buy, we are aware that the neon gas supplied by Ukraine is used as a component part of the microchip for our smoke alarms, new vehicles and defibrillators.  We are not aware of any immediate impact on supply, however, we envisage that in the medium to longer term we will encounter issues as resources are consumed globally.

We are also undertaking a review of our critical suppliers to identify any potential concerns regarding Russian ownership/contribution throughout the supply chains.  We are engaging with Crown Commercial Service regarding central Government’s response to gas supply from Russian providers,  but more wider across our supply chains, we have no concerns.  We will continue to do a deeper dive into our supply chains over the coming days.

Blue Light Commercial has kindly shared the attached external assessment on the generic high level impacts on supply chains for your information.

What this shows us is that we should anticipate rises in fuel and gas prices, and the potential for our supply chains to pass on these increase in costs to the Sector, along with increasing inflation affecting all contracts that are linked to the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Can I ask that engagement with our critical suppliers remains centrally coordinated via the Procurement Hub.  We will of course keep you updated on this incredibly fluid situation.

Should you have any questions, concerns or want to discuss any of the information further, please do not hesitate to get in touch via the contact form on our website
