Wayne Brown is the Chief Fire Officer of West Midlands Fire Service taking up the position in January 2023.

Wayne joined the West Midlands Fire Service from London Fire Brigade in November 2019 as the Deputy Chief Fire Officer, where he had overall accountability for the Community Risk Reduction Programme, responsible for Prevention, Protection and Operational Response.

In previous roles, Wayne has also led the delivery of Community Risk Management Plan, Blue Light Collaboration, Operational Policy, Incident Command and Operational Assurance.

He is an experienced multi-agency and CBRN Gold Commander, having attended some of the UK’s most significant operational incidents, including London terrorist attacks and the devastating Grenfell Tower Fire.

Wayne chairs the West Midlands Conurbation Local Resilience Forum, NFCC Health and Safety committee and contributes to national workstreams which include the National Fire Chiefs Council Operations Coordination Committee, Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles Project Board, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Project Board and is an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion.

In 2021, Wayne became Director of Fire and a Trustee of 999 Cenotaph, which is aiming to raise £3.2m to build the UK’s first such monument to honour the NHS and all emergency services.

Wayne has attained qualifications in Business Administration, Digital Leadership, Project Management, Leadership and Management, Coaching and Mentoring and has completed the Executive Leadership Programme.

At the 2021 Excellence in Fire Awards, he was named Most Influential BAME Individual in Fire.

Wayne is a former professional footballer, a UEFA-qualified football coach and has played for and managed the England Fire Service football team. He chairs the England Fire Service football section. He also enjoys boxing and playing golf.
